The Ditmas Examiner went out into the neighborhood this fall to find out what people were thinking. Here is some of what they told us:
Question: What do you hope to see in the community for 2019?
“Would like to see a nice Chinese food restaurant” — Teri
“A little bit more safety. We could use a bank. More bars.” — Ben
“I don’t think it’s my place to ask what should be in the neighborhood. As a white guy, it’s not my place, I’m happy to be here.” – Andrew. He added that hopes to see a government “that is engaged in its people.”
“Would like to see a skate park in the community.”
“Hair salon for children, a game room, variety of places to eat for many diversities, A groomer.
Valentine says she doesn’t want to say any new businesses in the community. She feels there are too many businesses and it is over commercialized. Instead she wants to see
more local parks–Prospect Park is too far for many people and not exclusive to Ditmas Park.
As the rain poured on Election Day, our reporter went to the Marlborough Gardens polling place on Marlborough Road just off Cortelyou. Question: What do you people want to see changed in the election of 2018?
“Better rights for immigrants ”
“A change in the community ”
“We should use this opportunity to vote as our advantage to make a change ”
“I don’t know if my vote will have an impact on the community but maybe I am wrong”
