Frequently Asked Questions

Subscriptions & Delivery For Orange, Sussex, Passaic & Pike County

Q: How do I subscribe?
A: Click on “Subscribe” at the top or bottom of the home page (look under “Do Stuff”) or call 845-469-9000 or email us at circulation@strausnews.com.

Q: How do you decide who receives the paper free and who has to pay?
A: We have to cut off the free subscriptions somewhere (or we couldn’t stay in business; mailing every week through the US Mail is expensive.) Because we are delivered through the US Mail, we must use their “zip code borders” as our delivery borders for free distribution. That’s the short answer. Want a longer explanation? Read on. We receive a discounted rate because we go to such a high percentage of the possible addresses in a particular zip code. If we were to mail one paper to House A on a route and a different paper to House B on the same route, none of the papers on the route would go at the discounted rate. We’re not too sympathetic to the “it’s not fair my neighbor gets it for free and I don’t” argument. Perfectly honestly, we think the paper is a great deal at just $35 a year (or less than $.75 a week). Want to discuss it further? Call our President, Jeanne Straus, at 845-469-9000.

Q: How can I get a newspaper delivered if my zip code is not shown on the drop down zip code list?
A: Simply subscribe for only $35 a year.

Q: How can I report a delivery problem or stop deliveries while I’m away?
A: Call us at 845-469-9000 or email circulation@strausnews.com. Snowbirds, or lake dwellers, please provide us with the stop and re-start date.

Q: How do I change the address at which I receive my paper?
A: Call us at 845-469-9000 or email circulation@strausnews.com

Q: How do I send a gift subscription?
A: Call us at 845-469-9000 or email the information to circulation@strausnews.com

Questions and Mistakes

Q: What should I do if I find an error, have a complaint, or wish to speak to an editor?
A: If you have an issue about a story, contact the Managing Editor of the paper whose name is listed on the bottom of page 12 in the print edition, or look at the Contact Us section of the website (at the bottom.), or send an email to nyoffice@strausnews.com. If it is about an advertisement, contact the Director of Sales (whose name is also listed on page 12 of the print edition), or look at the Contact Us section of the website, or send an email to nyoffice@strausnews.com.

Q: What if my name was published in the police blotter and it said I was arrested, when in fact I was simply given a summons?
A: The term “arrested” is one the police use to mean a whole spectrum of citations. We publish exactly what they give us.

Q: Can I get my name withheld from the police blotter?
A: Unfortunately not. We publish everything the police give us and they are supposed to provide us all arrests. However, we do block our police blotter from the web crawlers.
